Schitt’s Creek star Dustin Milligan has been turning heads on Netflix recently with his turn as a hot snowman in the holiday rom-com Hot Frosty, but it seems that he was not quite comfortable with the attention being given to him on set. The newest addition to the streamer’s festive movie line-up has been dominating the chart since its release, and for now it doesn’t show any signs of giving up the top spot easily.
Starring Milligan and original Mean Girls star Lacey Chabert, the whimsical, if at times steamy rom-com, about a woman who brings a snowman to life with the use of a magical scarf, is proving that even the most ridiculous sounding movies can be successful – especially when the film landed a perfect critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. While the film is proving to be another huge Netflix hit, for its buffed up male lead, that success comes at the price of the discomfort Milligan felt while filming his many shirtless scenes.
During an interview with Collider, Milligan was asked how it felt to be “sort of” objectified during the filming of the movie. In reply, he said:
“Incredibly uncomfortable. It’s not something that I recommended. It was something that I knew going into it was going to be very uncomfortable, and I was very intentional with where my head was at every single day that I was exposed the way that I was. You have to kind of protect yourself and advocate for yourself. Luckily, this was a conversation I had with Lacey, as well, and she was there very much as my partner, my ally, in that specifically where sometimes things would feel maybe not quite so great, and even just with a look between us, I knew that I was allowed to speak up for myself in a way that would just make me more comfortable and make the entire day just run with a little more ease and a little more comfort. I think that, in turn, allowed for a freer performance, a much more uninhibited performance that I hope made Jack that much more of a stronger character.”
Hot Frosty is a Hot Property on Netflix
Hot Frosty’s central premise is certainly one that has disaster written all over it, but between the capable cast and a knowing script, the film has defied the odds to become a hit with everyone. Critics have hailed it as exactly the kind of movie the world needs right now. Something that does not take itself too seriously, and just delivers an entertaining watch for those cozying up on a cold night.

Helping that along has been Milligan’s “hot” performance, which has given him yet another step up the ladder from his breakout role in Schitt’s Creek. His roles have allowed him to successfully flip between comedy and drama, with appearances in films like Love Hard and TV series such as Rutherford Falls. Meanwhile, his Hot Frosty performance has been equally matched by the Hallmark queen, Lacey Chabert, whose long list of past Christmas movies sees her slipping into the lead role of Kathy with ease.
