Arcane is back at the top of the Netflix chart with the release of Season 2, scoring another huge debut on the platform. However, the series’ return has been bittersweet for fans, as it was announced previously that this will also be the last despite the show becoming one of the highest rated in the streamer’s library.
Arcane is an adult animated series set in the Riot Games’ League of Legends universe, which features the voice talents of Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Kevin Alejando, Katie Leung, and Jason Spisak. The series was originally announced as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of League of Legends, and aired its first season in 2021 to perfect reviews. That season set a new record as the highest-rated series, having landed the top spot in 52 countries in its first week.
Now Season 2 has arrived and seems to be following the trajectory of its predecessor, leaping straight to the top of the chart and once again landing a 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Having already been hailed as one of the best video game adaptations of all time, it seems that the new season has done nothing but further cement that reputation. But for fans, there is a downside to the new release, after it was revealed earlier in the year that this new run of episodes will be the final ones.
Why is Arcane Ending After 2 Perfect Seasons?
Fans of Arcane were shocked when it was announced that the series would be coming to an end after just two seasons. There has become a strange need in any popular franchise to see the story be dragged out over multiple seasons, and while it seems that the momentum of Arcane has enough goodwill to sustain at least one more run, co-creator Christian Linke explained to CinemaBlend that there was a specific story that was meant to be told, and it only took two seasons to tell it. He said:
” We always had a specific story in mind. Look, you could have stretched it, I’m sure. But for us, it was always just like we started with this in mind. I think there’s also a personal angle to it as creatives. We’ve all seen the TV shows, where clearly the writers are running out of juice. How inspired can you stay about the same thing, for how long? It’s been nine years for us, with these characters. I think there’s a responsibility aspect to this, also, where we’re like, this is what we had in mind.”

Netflix’s Hit Video Game Adaptation Is the Most Expensive Animated Series Ever Made
The League of Legends animated series is at the top of the charts in both popularity and price tag.
Some of the most memorable and beloved shows have only become that for knowing when the time was right to quit. Others have gone on to a point where audiences start to get sick of seeing the same characters playing out the same scenarios to the point they almost become continuing dramas and lose their edge. In that respect, it seems that the decision to end Arcane after two seasons is the right one for a series that has nothing left to prove and can go out on the ultimate high.
