Months before Season 2 of The Night Agent premieres, Netflix has approved a third season of the action thriller. The Night Agent follows FBI secret agent Peter Sutherland as he finds himself answering the calls that come through to an emergency line. The program he works on is called Night Agent, but the phone in front of him never makes a sound. Until it does. Answering a call, Sutherland is thrown into a deadly conspiracy that goes all the way to the White House. The Night Agent has since become one of the most successful shows on the streaming platform, resulting in a surprisingly early Season 3 renewal. Which makes a nice change from all the cancelations.
Variety reports that Netflix has now given the green light to the The Night Agent Season 3. Several new images have also been released from Season 2, which you can check out below. Production is set to begin later this year in Istanbul, with the crew then traveling to New York to finish shooting. The follow-up to Season 2 (to be released in early 2025) falls under the umbrella of Exhibit A, Project X Entertainment, and Sony Pictures Television, which will team up with Netflix again for worldwide distribution.
The series stars Gabriel Basso as Sutherland alongside Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin. Joining them for Season 2 will be Amanda Warren, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Arienne Mandi, Brittany Snow, Teddy Sears, and Michael Malarkey, among others. Returning showrunner Shawn Ryan (The Shield, Angel, Lie to Me) will continue to tell the action-laced story, which is inspired by the book of the same name by Matthew Quirk. Albeit a few changes have been made in order to continue Sutherland’s adventures on screen.
The Night Agent is One of Netflix’s Best Action Shows
Not only was The Night Agent Season 1 superbly written, but the action was non-stop, leading the series to be a huge hit where audiences is concerned. The Night Agent became one of the streamer’s most successful shows when, after 25 days since its debut, it had gotten more than 600 million hours of total viewership. While it remains below shows like Money Heist, Squid Game, and Stranger Things, there’s no denying its noteworthy presence on the streamer, with each episode upping the ante and no doubt drawing in even more viewers for the upcoming second season.

What The Night Agent has that other action shows don’t have is balance. Balance between well-executed set pieces, an effective pace, and very compelling characters. It appears to be formulaic at first, but after its first three episodes, there are several twists and turns to keep you hooked into its cat-and-mouse plot led by two impressively engaging characters in Peter and Rose. Season 1 has a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but if things go right and writers elevate what is already a solid action script, that number will probably go up with the release of Seasons 2 and 3.
