Skynet might not be finished yet, as Terminator Zero, the new anime series from Netflix set in the iconic sci-fi universe, may have secretly been renewed for a second season. Created by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman: Part II) and directed by Masashi Kudo (Bleach), the new series is the first entry in the franchise to move away from the Connor family, setting its story in Japan with a brand-new cast of characters and killing machines.
Season 1 of Terminator Zero was a massive hit, earning rave reviews from audiences and critics. It appears the success of the debut season was enough to encourage Netflix to green light Season 2, although its announcement might not have been as ceremonious as the streamer had hoped. Per What’s On Netflix, Terminator Zero Season 2’s announcement came via Netflix Latinoamérica on X (formerly Twitter). In a now deleted post, the account shared the streamer’s upcoming slate of animated projects.
Among already announced shows and movies such as The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, and Arcane Season 2, was Terminator Zero. Underneath the show’s title read the words, “Temporada 2” — “Season 2” in Spanish. Season 2 had not yet been officially announced by Netflix, and the leaked tweet was quickly deleted by the official account. Fans were skeptical about Terminator Zero when it was announced. What would the franchise be like without John and Sarah Connor? However, the anime blew everyone away, re-energizing the dwindling franchise after a run of underwhelming box office performances. Desperation for Season 2 is at an all-time high thanks to the leaked image, and audiences are hoping Netflix will capitalize on the hype and officially green light Season 2 in the coming days.
The Leak May Have Also Revealed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2
While most of the other animated projects had already been announced by Netflix, the leaked photo may have spoiled another major project the studio has in the works.Cyberpunk: Edgerunners took the world by storm in 2022, winning Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year Award, and saving the video game franchise after the disastrous release of Cyberpunk 2077. It was initially thought that the show was a Limited Series, and, were fans to get another season, it would follow a fresh batch of characters.
Netflix confirmed this in September, revealing that a new Cyberpunk anime is currently in development, moving away from David and the rest of the Edgerunners from the beloved anime. While it may simply be a mistranslation/miscommunication from execs within Netflix, the image for Cyberpunk Edgerunners in the deleted tweet is also followed by the words “Temporada 2.” There is a chance that Netflix could be continuing the soul crushing story from the original anime with a second season.

Alternatively, it is more likely that the accidental billing as “Season 2” was caused by poor communication among the streamer’s various international social media accounts. It has been confirmed by Netflix that the new show will tell a fresh story in Night City, focusing on brand-new characters who transform their bodies with illegal modifications. As much as fans are desperate to see more of David and Lucy conquering Night City, it might be time to accept that their journey to the moon has come to an end.
