It’s possible that a canceled Starz series could get a second life courtesy of Netflix. A year after its cancellation left fans devastated, the wrestling drama Heels is set to premiere on Netflix this fall – and there is a chance that the show could be revived, should the series prove to be successful on the streamer.
Per Deadline, both seasons of Heels will make their debut on Netflix on Sunday, September 15. Despite a devoted fan following and solid reviews, Starz canceled the series in 2023, but a new lease on life arrived when Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group struck up a licensing deal back in April for the show. The news is especially good for executive producer and showrunner, Mike O’Malley, who believes that the series could be allowed to return if it is a success on the platform.
“Netflix is very practical. If a lot of people watch the show, then there’s a real chance we can make more. And if people don’t, there’s no reason to make more…The acting performances are so authentic and so genuine by every actor in this series, and I am thrilled that this platform now will allow more people to see those performances.”
Heels Season 3 Could Happen Despite the Busy Schedules of its Leads
A third season could be in the cards, but it also depends on the availability of star Stephen Amell, should Heels become a streaming hit. The actor is set to play the lead role in the Suits spinoff, Suits: LA, which has been picked up to series and will move its shooting location from Vancouver, Canada to Los Angeles. His co-lead, Alexander Ludwig, is also busy on Earth Abides for MGM+, so a lot will need to come together for Season 3 of Heels to happen, but O’Malley thinks even Suits: LA being successful for Amell could also help their cause.
