Negan is back in business, baby. The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 dropped its first teaser trailer at New York Comic Con, giving fans a new look at the highly anticipated return of the spin-off series starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan. Picking up the story from Season 1’s finale, the short trailer shows Negan rising to the top in post-apocalyptic Manhattan, and that could mean a return to some of his more nefarious ways.
The trailer reveals Negan taking a commanding position among a group of survivors in New York City, exuding the same kind of air of authority that he displayed on his original introduction to The Walking Dead. Whether his ruthless leadership will see him – and his new version of his barbed-wired Lucille – return to his dark days is something that will play out over the season, but where it could lead is currently anyone’s guess.
The Walking Dead: Dead City became the first in a new chapter for the zombie franchise, and certainly helped breathe new life into it by focusing on some of the saga’s most popular characters. While Negan appeared to have completed a huge personal redemption arc during the flagship series, Dead City has seen him being forced to undo some of the work he put into turning from all-out villain to anti-hero. The question now, is how far down that dark road he will go to protect himself and others from the violent and dangerous people he has surrounded himself with.
What Does the Dead City Season 2 Trailer Reveal?
Dead City Season 2 will continue to put one of The Walking Dead’s most popular characters right at the heart of the action. Morgan’s Negan became a fan favorite from the moment he stepped out of a trailer and prepared to crack skulls in the name of asserting his authority over Rick and his group. Having always been a survivor first and foremost, Negan has frequently proven to be morally questionable in his quest to survive. That has certainly not changed according to the new footage from Season 2.
While Negan appears to be adapting to a new powerful role in Manhattan, his strained relationship with Maggie is clearly still a major part of the Season 2 story, as she returns to New York after previously leaving Negan behind. The stage is being set for an unpredictable conflict between the two of them that has been at the core of their story for several years in The Walking Dead.
