Journey is hinting that they might play at Sphere.
Neal Schon took to Facebook to share a secret message about the possibility of the gig. The rocker reposted a post with performances from Sphere and said in the caption to check his comment about the residency. In the comment, he wrote:
“I called this a long [time] ago after evaluating Sphere. The whole thing is built for a jam band. I see… Journey doing it as I did with Journey [Through Time.] All that early material would be explosive with the hits.”
Schon’s mention of Journey Through Time is a band he formed a while back to play songs from Journey’s early days. This band included original Journey singer and keyboardist Gregg Rolie, current Journey drummer Deen Castronovo, and seasoned rock bassist Marco Mendoza. They did a few gigs in 2018 and 2019.
In the same post, a fan asked Schon:
“Is this a hint?”
Schon made clear that it was:
“Yes to Sphere.”
It’s Official: Journey Is Playing At The Sphere
Following the comment, Schon dropped some hints that Journey might be one of the next acts to line up a residency at the new Sphere venue. The rocker said in a statement he shared on Facebook:
“How many of you would like the See a Journey Through Time Type concept concert playing our music spanning from beginning to now at Sphere?”
The fans were happy to hear about the possibility of a show in Sphere. One wrote:
“I would absolutely love that idea! I wasn’t able to see JTT and I have never heard some of the songs that were sung there live before. STAY AWHILE is my favorite and I know how thrilled I would be to hear it.”
Another said:
“I saw U2 at the Sphere and they were great. The Sphere sets the bar for concert venues! The Journey through Time concept would be great.”
More details to come anytime soon.
