Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is back to doing what he does best – running, jumping, and generally risking his life for our entertainment in the first trailer for the highly anticipated action sequel, Mission: Impossible 8, which we now know is officially titled Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Set to land in theaters on May 23, 2025, courtesy of Paramount Pictures, it looks like the next Mission: Impossible outing will be the last, and will see Cruise once again team-up with the likes of Ving Rhames’ Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg’s Benji Dunn, and Hayley Atwell’s Grace to put a stop to the latest threat to humanity.

Where Did We Leave Off With Ethan Hunt & His Team?
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will continue to allow Tom Cruise to attempt to fulfill his death wish, with the action sequel already confirmed to feature a sequence in which the actor will hang from an upside-down plane, seemingly with no parachute. No doubt this will just be one of the breathtaking action sequences that will play out as Hunt and his team fight to save everything and everyone.

We last saw Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt running to save the world in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Released in July last year, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. The Mission: Impossible follow-up finds Cruise back as Ethan Hunt, who this time must save us all from a rogue AI known as “The Entity.” Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet as they track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan must also come to terms with the ghosts of his past and decide how far he is willing to go to complete his mission.
Much like the rest of the Cruise and McQuarrie Mission: Impossible movies, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was met with rave reviews, and stands at a hugely impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. “With world-threatening stakes and epic set pieces to match that massive title, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One proves this is still a franchise you should choose to accept,” the critics’ consensus reads.
