Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has shared his pre-show house music list on social media to show his fans what they would be listening to before the band took to the stage. The rocker revealed that it was him putting the playlists together.
“One of the things I love doing for all of the bands & tours I’ve ever done is programming all of the pre-show house music. Here’s what attendees of the DT40 shows have been listening to leading up Rooster & Psycho to start the show every night,” he wrote in the caption.
TheShockNews includes songs from many different artists — Beck, Queens Of The Stone Age, Muse, Chris Cornell, Jack White, Opeth, Mr. Bungle and more.
Similarly, the drummer has been in charge of the setlist of the shows too. “For me, changing the setlist for all those years with Dream Theater, a lot of it was a reaction to me kind of — I don’t wanna say ‘get bored’, but you get a little complacent playing the same songs over and over and over and over. So I would switch it up a lot, not only for the fans, but for ourselves to keep it fresh. But now, coming back after 13 years, it’s gonna be fresh every night for me. So that in itself will be exciting. But all that being said, I think the band really does want to interject those kinds of things back into the live show,” the rocker explained back in March this year.
James LaBrie explained in another interview that the band was glad Portnoy is the one in charge of the setlists.
Dream Theater will release their sixteenth studio album, ‘Parasomnia,’ on February 7, 2025, through InsideOut Music. The LP will be the band’s first with Portnoy since 2009’s ‘Black Clouds & Silver Linings.’
