Mike Muir wants to create something true to Suicidal Tendencies’ style, even if it’s not trendy.
During a press conference at Hellfest 2024 in Clisson, France, the singer said making albums is mentally challenging for him, but with new band members like Ben Weinman and Jay Weinberg, they are eager to record. Muir thinks the new album will connect with fans over time:
“We realized that a lot of people, with music, you look around and you see what’s popular, what’s trendy, and we go back to what was popular and trendy when we did our first record, and we didn’t do any of that and all the reviews were terrible. And so we’ll do a record that people probably will not like, and I will be very happy and stuff.”
According to the rocker, their upcoming record will connect with fans over time.
“But I think that years from now that people will sit there, and there’ll be a lot of people that are not so much into trends or genres that’ll go, like, ‘That’s a f*cking really bad-a** record.’ And so that’s what I want to do. As I say, I like to like people, but I don’t care if people like me. [Laughs] It makes my life easier.”
Mike’s Previous Words On Making A New Album
Suicidal Tendencies released their latest album, ‘Still Cyco Punk After All These Years,’ in 2018 on Suicidal Records. It’s a new version of Muir’s 1996 solo album ‘Lost My Brain! (Once Again)’ Their last record with the original material is 2016’s ‘World Gone Mad.’ Last year, Muir chatted with Bobby Dee Presents and again reflected on his aim to stay true to his artistic vision:
“I think we go about it differently than a lot of people. Especially, I think, when the COVID happened, you realize — as my dad would call it, he called it the panicky people. And you don’t do things because you’re panicking; you do things because it’s something you feel in your heart. And so when that happened, [some] people [said], ‘Oh, we’re recording all these songs. We’re doing this. Ain’t got nothing else to do.’ And I go, ‘That’s not what music’s about. It’s not about, you got nothing better to do.’”
Suicidal Tendencies is currently performing in Europe. Their next show is scheduled for July 2 at the Rugby Sound Festival in Italy. They will also visit Austria and Germany. They will head toward South America later.
