To say that Mike Flanagan fans were thrilled earlier this year when word broke that his 2016 film HUSH was being released digitally for the first time ever would be an understatement. The film had been unavailable for more than a year after departing Netflix, leaving everyone to question when and where it would pop up again. Thanks to Shout! Studios, it was brought back from the dead for its PVOD premiere, causing a wave of excitement on social media. Now there’s even more news for Flanaganites to get pumped about, as HUSH will make its theatrical debut here in the U.S. later this month.
Beginning October 16 at 6:30 pm PT (9:30 pm ET), Shout! Studios will release a newly-restored version of HUSH approved by Flanagan for a very limited theatrical engagement. To sweeten the deal ever further, a live Q&A will take place with the director and the film’s co-writer and star, Kate Siegel, that will be livestreamed to select theaters nationwide. This Q&A will take place at Vidiots in Eagle Rock, California, immediately after the screening, so it’s best to check your local listing to see if it’s playing near you so you don’t miss out on the chance to be involved in all the festivities.
HUSH stars Siegel as a deaf writer who retreats into the woods to live a solitary life, and must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears in her window. It’s widely regarded as one of Flanagan’s finest films, and currently holds a 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics, and a respectable 73% from fans.
HUSH Is Available to Stream Once Again
Premiering on Netflix in 2016, HUSH was leased to the streaming service for seven years, after which the rights reverted to Flanagan, who pulled it from the platform because he knew it would most likely continue to be offered as a streaming-only title. As a champion of physical media, he wanted to give fans the chance to add it to their collection, so he collaborated with Shout! Studios for both the PVOD release, and the physical release, which is distributed via Shout! Factory in a 4-Disc set that features loads of bonus content, including the Shush Cut, a beautiful black and white 4K restoration that also includes commentary by Flanagan and Siegel.

In addition to its PVOD and physical releases, HUSH also returned to streaming earlier this month just in time for spooky season, and is now available to watch on Shudder, marking the first time in a year and a half that it’s been available to watch via any service. A subscription to Shudder runs $6.99/month, or you can pony up an extra two bucks and pay $8.99/month for AMC+, which includes Shudder, IFC, Sundance TV, and BBC America, as well as AMC’s original content such as Interview with the Vampire, and Snowpiercer.
