Spider-Man 4 rumors are flying around the internet thick and fast about its potential villain, and Michael Keaton has piled on to the rumor mill, addressing his potential MCU return. Keaton played Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. The Vulture, in Tom Holland’s first solo outing as the web-slinger, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Toomes remains one of the MCU’s best and most interesting villains, and fans are hoping to see the character return in the future — maybe as a member of the Sinister Six.
Speaking to Screen Rant to promote his new movie, Goodrich, Michael Keaton discussed a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Goodrich and Spider-Man: Homecoming were produced by Amy Pascal, leading the interviewer to ask if Keaton had been in any talks about Spider-Man 4, especially now it has found its director (Destin Daniel Cretton). Judging from Keaton’s response, he loved playing the character, saying “Oh, wow. That’s an interesting character, that guy.”
However, the actor admitted that he hasn’t spoken to anyone at Marvel Studios or Sony, or been approached by any of the film’s producers about reprising the role in Spider-Man 4. Those who watched until the end of Morbius might remember that Keaton made a brief cameo, teasing the future of the Sinister Six. Other members of the villainous team have slowly cropped up across the MCU and Sony’s semi-detached Spider-Man universe. However, according to the actor, Spider-Man 4 might not be the project where it all comes together. He continued:
“That really was fun experience, but
I haven’t talked to anybody about anything.
[In a joking tone] I try not to talk to anybody. I really don’t like people.”
Who Could Be the Villain in Spider-Man 4?
Thanks to the immense success of The Penguin, and the online speculation surrounding upcoming MCU projects like Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, and now Spider-Man 4, it feels like superhero projects are having a slight resurgence. Over the past few weeks, social media and online forums have been ablaze with speculation surrounding Tom Holland’s fourth standalone movie as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
The two biggest rumors spreading like wildfire revolve around the film’s villain. One strong rumor suggests that Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom could make the jump to the MCU, along with a few other Symbiotes. However, Hardy has unintentionally dispelled this rumor, revealing that the upcoming film, Venom: The Last Dance, will be his last time playing Eddie Brock. Of course, that doesn’t mean Symbiotes can’t make some sort of appearance in the film.

“That’s all she wrote.”
The other major rumor floating around suggests that Robert Downey Jr.’s Dr. Doom will be Spider-Man 4‘s main antagonist. Some fans believe this could be an interesting choice, considering how close Peter Parker was to Tony Stark, and how much his sacrifice affected Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It is important to remember these are just rumors and (so far) have not been addressed or confirmed by anyone involved with the movie. Moreover, it is unclear if the Spider-Man sequel will be a street-level story like many are expecting, or another multiversal romp through the MCU.
