The highly-anticipated prequel to Showtime’s Dexter now has an official premiere date and a heart-pounding first teaser that gives fans a fresh look at what they can expect from the new series. Per THR, Dexter: Original Sin will make its streaming debut on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, December 13, and premiere two days later, December 15, on Showtime’s linear station. Original Sin sees the return of Michael C. Hall to the franchise to provide the inner voice for his younger self, portrayed by Patrick Gibson.
The new teaser is giving off strong 90s vibes, which makes sense considering it takes place in 1991 Miami and traces the early years of Dexter Morgan trying to control his dark urges. “I am a killer, but I wasn’t born this way. I was made,” Hall proclaims in the 30-second spot as flashes of Christian Slater (Harry Morgan) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Tanya Martin) burst into frame. Patrick Dempsey and Christina Millian also make an appearance, as the duo take on the roles of Aaron Spencer and Maria LaGuerta respectively. We also get a few glimpses into what Dexter’s high school life is like, as well as a shot of James Martinez as Angel Batista. The teaser finishes with Hall aptly adding, “They say it takes a village to raise a killer.” Check it out below.
Will Michael C. Hall Return for Dexter: Resurrection?
Hot on the heels of the announcement that Dexter: Original Sin was in development, it was revealed that a sequel to Dexter: New Blood was also in the works. Titled Dexter: Resurrection, not much is known about the follow-up that’s expected to premiere at some point in 2025, but seeing as how Michael C. Hall’s titular killer was seemingly left for dead, it would make it hard for him to return in the physical realm. According to Hall, however, you can’t keep a good vigilante down.
“Never say never,” he told Variety earlier this year. “This world has sort of magical element, so I wouldn’t definitively say no to any proposition. There’s a whole cast of characters that populate his wider world and have the potential to re-emerge.”
Those cast of characters include his son, Harrison, portrayed in New Blood by Jack Alcott. When last we saw him, he was getting the heck out of dodge with the help of Batista after shooting his father. Therefore, it begs the question: Did Harrison really kill Dexter, or was his aim a little off? Like Hall said, anything is possible, including the potential for everyone’s favorite serial killer to make a triumphant return.
That being said, it would make more sense to leave things as they are, and have Harrison be the main focus going forward, with Hall providing the voice for his Dark Passenger, much like he is in Original Sin. For now, it’s all rumor and innuendo, but we’ll have more news on Dexter: Resurrection as it becomes available. In the meantime, check out Dexter: Original Sin when it hits Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13.
