Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett shared what he learned over the years with Esquire.
In the interview, the guitarist shared his fears about his fortune and revealed that he was worried that his children would get his fortune. Hammett explained why it bothers him:
“I know one day my children will come into a lot of money and that bothers me. I still don’t know what I’m going to do about that, especially as I grew up with very little and know that when I had some disposable income I went a bit crazy. I’ve had pretty much everything I’ve ever dreamt of having.”
Being A Millionaire ‘Comes With Problems’
In a 2017 interview, Hammett was asked if being a millionaire ever gets old. He responded that it sometimes does because it comes with ‘a whole bunch of problems’:
“You know, it just comes with a whole bunch of different problems, bro. And you know what? I’m not very good with saving money. [I spend it on] comic books and movie posters and horror stuff and guitars. I live my life. I just f*cking live my life.”
Though he is worried that his children might get his fortune, the rocker said that he is pretty generous when it comes to money:
“And I’m generous. The people who are around me experience what I’m experiencing while I’m experiencing it.”
Considering his earlier words, it seems likely that Kirk Hammett’s children will inherit his wealth.
