Cannibal Corpse fans continue to rally behind the band in response to backlash from Gen Z over their song lyrics. The controversy has received thousands of comments on social media over the past week.
Many young listeners also showed support on X and Facebook. “I’m part of Gen Z and I LOVE CANNIBAL CORPSE!” wrote one person as a response to a Metalhead Zone article. “Their album ‘A Skeletal Domain’ really got me into them, a phenomenal album from a phenomenal band!”
The outlet’s headline read ‘Cannibal Corpse Is Under Attack By Gen Z Trying To Cancel The Band,’ but commenters cast doubt over the possibility with one noting, “News flash. This will have zero effect on their fan base. And it gives them some publicity that might attract new fans. In all fairness, this isn’t a Gen Z thing. They’ve offended others in the past. It’s called free speech. Deal with it.”
Meanwhile, some X users announced that they were canceling their Spotify subscriptions after the platform removed certain Cannibal Corpse albums.
One fan explained, “Not gonna lie, canceled my service the second I saw they were gone. As someone who has been using the service a long time, I am not gonna play around if your new policy means metal heads don’t have a place at the table.”
The online debate began earlier this week when a user pointed out how Mindless Self Indulgence’s ‘Panty Shot’ sexualized a minor and wrote, “Separate the art from the artist, but this is the ‘art.’” Another person commented under the post by referring to Cannibal Corpse’s ‘Necropedophile’ and saying, “Wait till they see this one.”
The band is currently trending on X as supportive tweets continue to pour in. They are also getting ready for an upcoming fall tour. The first show will take place in Germany on September 20.
