In a recent chat with Metal Global, Megadeth bassist James LoMenzo revealed that the band is working on new music.
During the chat, he was asked whether or not the band is working on something new after their 2022 album ‘The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!’ He responded positively, and said the frontman Dave Mustaine has been wanting to make a new record with the fresh lineup:
“We’re actively working on music right now. In a way — well, it is; it’s a new band at this point. It’s a new version of Megadeth, as if nobody expected that coming. We’re talking with Dave every day. Dave really wants to do another record and just get something fresh out there.”
LoMenzo did not play the bass on the band’s 2022 album because he had just joined the band at that time. However, he appreciated the former bassist Steve DiGiorgio’s work:
“The last one I thought was great. When I had just joined the band, they just finished recording it. I begged, I pleaded, I said, ‘I know, I know, I know, but could I please play bass on this?’ Cause there’s a few things I had heard were so great. And they were, like, ‘We’ve been doing this for two years. We just have to get on the road. It’s done.’ I was, like, ‘All right.’ But [session bassist] Steve DiGiorgio did an amazing job. I really love the way he played on this. And I enjoy playing his style.”
What Fans Can Expect To Hear
A few months ago, the band’s guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari revealed that Megadeth is planning a new album that he says will be similar to their classic ‘Rust In Peace’ era.
While talking about the band’s approach to the upcoming album, Mäntysaari mentioned there’s a strong connection with their last two albums and hinted they might be looking to get back to their original style:
“The band has such a cool history across all its albums. I know there are expectations, and you can’t please everybody, but there’s a really good continuum from the last two albums. I don’t know exactly, but I think we’ll maybe look to get back to the roots. Maybe you’ll hear some ‘Rust in Peace’ vibes, or maybe some things like the last two. Either way, the direction Megadeth is going now is good, and the vibe within the band seems to be in a very good place.”
