Marvel’s first family have nearly finished their debut mission in the MCU, as Joseph Quinn recently revealed when production on Fantastic Four: First Steps will wrap. Quinn is currently doing the press rounds for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, and is trying his best to avoid spoiling major details about First Steps. The Stranger Things star plays Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, in the new reboot. Quinn is joined by his Gladiator co-star Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), alongside Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Ting) in the upcoming film.
Speaking to Variety at the London premiere of Gladiator II, Quinn gave a fantastic update about the upcoming MCU movie. He began by praising Pedro Pascal, whom he will share the screen with twice in quick succession. “We made good friends with each other on this film. So to go into a situation where you know each other is just lovely,” Quinn began. Having starred together in Gladiator II, Quinn and Pascal’s on-screen chemistry in First Steps is expected to be elevated even further.
“We’ve got about two more weeks to film, then we’re done.”
Quinn then shared the news that will make Marvel fans shout “Flame on!” in excitement. “We’ve got about two more weeks to film, and then we’re done,” he revealed. Like all MCU movies, production on Fantastic Four: First Steps has been shrouded in secrecy. Some set photos were leaked showing off a practical suit for the Thing. However, it has also been disputed that the design was a prototype, rather than the finished costume. While we’re all anxious about seeing The Fantastic Four rebooted for a third time, what’s most exciting is finally seeing Galactus in the MCU — fingers crossed he’s not portrayed as a giant space fart cloud this time.
‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Is Set In an Alternate Timeline
While the past two iterations of The Fantastic Four on the big screen have brought the family to the 21st Century, First Steps is going retro. Appearing at SDCC (via Entertainment Weekly) earlier this year, director Matt Shackman described the film’s style as “retro-future ’60s.” First Steps also won’t be a part of the Sacred Timeline in the MCU. The film is confirmed to be set in another timeline. Fans are expecting the characters to make the jump to the main timeline by the end of the movie, so the family can interact with the rest of the MCU’s catalog in Avengers: Doomsday (you can’t do Dr. Doom without The Fantastic Four) and Secret Wars.

Two Movies Can Save the Superhero Genre After a Disastrous 2024
2025 could be a make-or-break year for superhero movies. But Superman and Fantastic Four could turn things around for the better.
Alongside the leading cast of Quinn, Kirby, Pascal, and Moss-Bachrach, First Steps also features a stellar supporting cast. Ralph Ineson will lend his distinct voice to Galactus. Footage shown to the crowd at this year’s D23 Brazil reportedly debuted Ineson’s giant villain, although the wider fan base are still waiting for the trailer to officially be released. The teaser also revealed the futuristic, retro universe the superhero team will be coming from within the multiverse. The movie also stars Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, John Malkovich, and Paul Walter Hauser. Fantastic Four: First Steps is slated for release on July 25, 2025.
