Morena Baccarin still wants to play Copycat in a Deadpool movie, potentially Deadpool 4. Morena Baccarin was one of the best parts of 2016’s Deadpool, playing Vanessa Carlyle, Wade Wilson’s love interest. Fans of the comics know that Vanessa is actually the shapeshifting mutant known as Copycat. 2016’s Deadpool seemingly set the stage for Baccarin to become the character following her imprisonment in the same machine that activated Wade Wilson’s mutant abilities. However, the Deadpool sequels have sidelined her and never allowed her to take on the Copycat mantle.
Speaking with Comic Book, Baccarin says she is still open to playing Copycat in the future Deadpool movie. While Deadpool 4 is not officially announced, following Deadpool & Wolverine’s $1.3 billion gross, it is a safe assumption that the Merc with the Mouth will return. The actress did joke about how Marvel needs to act fast and how long she has been waiting to play Copycat. She said:
I’ve only been waiting like five years. I’m not getting any younger or skinnier, so now’s the time.
Baccarin’s age or weight is no concern and should not count her out from playing Copycat in a future movie. It does speak, though, how the Deadpool movies have largely ignored the character of Vanessa. In Deadpool 2, she is killed off in the beginning, and though that film’s post-credit scene does have Deadpool reverse her death, by Deadpool & Wolverine, it is revealed that in the years between the second and third movies, they have broken up. Despite being such an essential part of Deadpool’s origin and a significant factor in the first film’s success, the sequels instead opted to push her aside in favor of pairing Deadpool with first Cable, and then Wolverine.
Copycat Deserves Her Time to Shine
The future of Deadpool as a franchise is in an interesting place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite Deadpool & Wolverine being the second highest-grossing film of 2024, there are no immediate plans for Deadpool 4. Fans know Deadpool will return, but as Deadpool & Wolverine notably did not end with him joining the MCU but instead staying in his universe of Earth 10005, Deadpool’s MCU future likely won’t be determined until after Avengers: Secret Wars.

The rumors about She-Hulk’s Tatiana Maslany and Deadpool & Wolverine have gone way too far.
Baccarin absolutely should be allowed to become a Copycat in a future Deadpool movie. While the obvious fourth film might feel the need to go bigger in an attempt to match Deadpool and Wolverine, the best bet might be to scale the franchise back. After two sequels in which Deadpool and Vanessa’s relationship was ignored, it would be refreshing for Marvel Studios to have a fourth Deadpool be a romantic comedy about these two romantic partners working as a superhero team and what that means for their relationship. It would be a waste never to have Baccarin suit up as Copycat.
