Maynard James Keenan added more dates to his one-time-only show.
“The Sessanta run was by far the most fun and delicious extended birthday party I’ve ever had thanks to all of the attendees and the master musicianship of Primus, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. No comparison,” the Tool frontman said in a statement on Instagram. “Decided we need to share this with people who missed the first round in places we couldn’t get to. Strap in.”
In March, Keenan announced a special show with no main acts or openers. He shared the news in a video on Instagram. The show celebrated his 60th birthday and featured three bands. The details were given in the video.
“Greetings from the Puscifer Entertainment hive mind. We’re looking forward to seeing you all at Sessanta. A celebration of Maynard James Keenan’s 60th birthday, featuring Puscifer, Primus and A Perfect Circle. There is no opener,” the video said.
It added, “There is no headliner. We will all share the stage. We play a few songs. They play a few songs. Then we play a few songs. Occasionally, we join each other on songs. We may even play new songs. New songs. It’s going to be a celebration like no other. Hope to see you there.”
Maynard toured with members of Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and Les Claypool from Primus. Keenan talked with Les Claypool and explained to Revolver why he chose to celebrate his birthday with this tour. He shared, “It’s just pure panic. It’s pure fear of death. Let’s just celebrate this absolutely terrifying marker.”
The rocker continued, “I had this idea years ago — back when we did Lollapalooza, when everybody was jamming with each other onstage in ’93 — I always wanted to do something like this. I was actually going to do six [bands]. That just was a train wreck of an idea — so it’s three bands playing.”
The Sessanta tour was a nod to Keenan’s 50th birthday event, Cinquanta. The singer’s Sessanta V2.0 tour will start on April 24 in Palm Springs at CA Acrisure Arena. Maynard has scheduled shows until June.
