In a previous conversation with Metal Hammer, Maynard James Keenan talked about why metal music is losing its intensity.
After discussing how the fascination with aliens has taken on the qualities of a new religion, the singer further explained his point:
“Well, we go through cycles, and things that are mysterious and have a hold on you with some sort of fear and curiosity of the unknown. And fear of the unknown, organised religion lost that steam a while ago; heavy metal lost that steam a long time ago; the original gangster rap is no longer scary, so people are always looking for that thing, maybe it’s extra-terrestrials.”
Keenan Recently Released A New Song
Keenan is busy with some new music nowadays. Last month, he put out a new song called ‘The Algorithm’ for the ‘American Psycho’ comic series with Puscifer. This is their first release since their 2020 album ‘Existential Reckoning.’ The song is about social media and the internet. The frontman announced this on his Instagram, writing:
“Tune in to Sirius XM Octane on Sirius XM Channel 37 to be the first to hear our new song, ‘The Algorithm,’ from the ‘American Psycho’ comic series soundtrack. Catch it starting now and throughout the day.”
Fans were excited about the new song but were disappointed because it was only on SiriusXM. Some fans pointed out that not everyone uses that platform and suggested it should be available on other streaming services. One fan mentioned the age issue as well:
“Nobody under the age of 40 uses Sirius.”
Another said:
“So I have to subscribe to yet another streaming service for my fix?! I’m itching here man.”
Tool has also been working on new music. Justin Chancellor confirmed last month that the band already has some solid songs for their upcoming album. He also revealed that they come together sometimes and have so many ideas.
