In a new interview with Metal Express Radio, Max Cavalera shared his dream of having his kids grow up as metal fans.
“It’s fun to me that I get to play with both of my sons in different bands,” the singer said. “I do stuff with Igor, my youngest, with Go Ahead and Die. He also plays with Cavalera and would do a lot of the old Sepultura stuff. A lot of the third-world posy stuff that we’d be doing a lot of the early records.”
He continued, “And then Zyon, this is his fourth record with me, with Soulfly. We’ve been working on it right now. It’s gonna be out next year. It’s so cool because they’re both very different from each other.”
“So I really get enjoy that. I get to be more extreme with Igor with underground metal and go full on that. And then, with Zyon, I get to be more of Soulfly, stuff more the tribal groups and be more of the Soulfly with stuff more classic. So to me, it was all I wanted to do when I had kids. It was like I hope my kids grow up the big metal heads that I get to hopefully play with them,” the vocalist also added.
Three of Max’s sons, Richie, Igor, and Zyon are involved in music. “Yeah, it’s cool,” the singer said of touring with them in a separate interview. “Richie’s often touring with other bands, we’re touring with other bands, and then from time to time, we get to do something like this, which reconnects everybody. I mean, there are fights and sh*t, but that’s part of it.”
“I mean, we have a big family. We can’t have everybody on tour,” Cavalera noted while discussing the disadvantages of touring with family. “We tried it once — we brought everybody, and it was insane. But you can’t do that all the time. So we take turns. We try to spend a little bit of time with all of them, as much as we can.”
Soulfly is planning to release their new album in 2025. The band’s North American tour starts on October 19 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
