Scorpions don’t retire because they don’t know when to stop.
The band’s guitarist Matthias Jabs recently sat down with Graspop Metal Meeting for an interview and shared the secret to the band’s long career:
“Uh, we don’t know when to finish. No, we tried. In 2010, we announced the final tour, which lasted only two and a half years. And then, you know, nobody wanted to let us go, which is nice. All the promoters from around the world said, ‘You can’t leave us now.’ And the fans especially said, ‘Scorpions, don’t stop.’”
The musician also talked about their plans for next year:
“And that’s 12 years ago [since the completion of the ‘final’ tour]. And we have so much fun doing what we are doing. And this year is the ‘Love At First Sting’ anniversary tour, a great new show. And then we are looking forward to next year where we are planning a few things like the big birthday parties with Scorpions and friends, but nothing definite yet.”
What Does Klaus Meine Think About Their Longevity?
Scorpions has been active on the rock scene for over five decades now. Previously in 2022, Klaus Meine also reflected on the band’s longevity, explaining:
“We always said the Scorpions, the longevity of the band, it’s about chemistry and not only being business partners but also being friends. That moment when we recorded ‘Blackout,’ it proved exactly that, and it was like a friend saying, ‘Come on, Klaus, you don’t leave right now; we wait for you until you’re ready to come back into the studio and sing, put those vocals on,’ and I did.”
In an earlier interview, Jabs again looked back on Scorpions’ long journey, starting when they were young and never thinking they’d still be going. Despite their past success, he sees their current popularity with sold-out shows and fans of all ages.
