Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders has won Little League Baseball Regional Coach of the Year.
Back in January, Sanders was recognized as one of the 36 regional winners of the Regional Baseball Coach of the Year award by the Positive Coaching Alliance. He was chosen from a pool of over 500 coaches nominated nationwide. Sanders holds the roles of both Little League coach and league president in Indian Rocks Beach, FL.
He said of his achievement:
“I was not expecting it and knew nothing about it until I received the email letting me know I was selected. Then, once I did a little more research and learned about the nomination process that 10 of my current and former players’ parents went through for me, I was very excited and humbled.”
His Music Career Wasn’t Mentioned In Announcements
The announcement of Sanders’s selection on the Little League website doesn’t mention his musical career. However, it does highlight his deep connection to baseball.
Sanders has been involved with the sport since childhood, playing in Little League from ages five to 14. The announcement mentioned how Sanders got involved in volunteering for the league after watching his eight-year-old son play for two seasons. He started by helping out in the concessions stand, assisting his son’s coach, and even providing snacks for the team.
Sanders’ involvement eventually made him a coach and team manager. He wanted to be a mentor not just for his son but for all the kids in the community too.
