In a recent chat with Guitar World, Martyn LeNoble said Perry Farrell threatened someone before Jane’s Addiction drama.
“We ended up going to Korea and then one show in Japan,” the bassist recalled about his short stint with Jane’s Addiction. “After that show, Perry was really upset. He was upset during the show, and he said he was gonna kill someone – and it wasn’t me.”
He continued, “I tried to talk him down a little bit, and he suddenly turned on me. He goes, ‘Everything you play sounds like sh*t. There’s nothing but feedback coming from your amp.’ I was like, ‘Hold on one second, there’s no feedback. I play bass; there’s no feedback.’”
“The only time there was feedback was when he put his microphone at arm’s length and held it out like he was Whitney Houston,” LeNoble further remembered. “His microphone would pick up the bass, and then it would go through his delay, so that was the feedback.”
The rocker added, “He was trying to blame that on me, and I was not having it. That’s when I found myself after the show in Japan the next morning, flying back with a band that I was no longer in.”
Farrell’s onstage clash with LeNoble is similar to his recent fight with Dave Navarro. The singer punched his bandmate and the band then canceled their tour.
“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current U.S. tour,” Jane’s Addiction shared in a statement. “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
They added, “We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken.”
LeNoble joined Jane’s Addiction to play bass on their comeback album, ‘Strays.’ Later, Chris Chaney replaced him as the new bassist of the group.
