Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.
Martha Stewart is one smart cookie — she knows that fall pants are officially game again.
Last week, the 83-year-old wore a pair of black faux leather pants for an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, which just so happens to be my favorite style of bottoms. This is the second time I’ve seen her in them — the first was last October — and in the meantime, she’s still been rocking leather-looking bottoms with both gold and silver pairs. TL;DR: Leather pants have her stamp of approval and mine, too.
She also layered a black tweed-like cardigan sweater over another plush topper, and then threw on black ankle booties to keep consistent with the monochrome vibes. It looked warm, comfortable, and I’m excited to recreate the look.
Martha Stewart’s Outfit Blueprint
Prettygarden Knit Cardigan Sweater
Stewart likely layered an oversized black sweater underneath her jacket because it was short-sleeved. But since I’m pretty much always cold, I might skip the layering sitch and go straight for a long option like this one. It still looks very designer-inspired with the chunky stitching that resembles tweed, though it’s actually machine-washable unlike the latter fabric.
Lyssé High-Waist Faux Leather Wide-Leg Pants
I’ve owned these pants for over three years now, and I still wear them probably once a month, which is way more than I wear jeans this time of year. Though leather or faux leather probably doesn’t sound like a comfortable fabric and might even seem sticky and stuffy, they’re far from it. These are actually my “stretchy pants.” I wear them when I’ve eaten too much or am experiencing bloating. Heck, I even wear them on planes! My mom, who is also the queen of style, owns them, too.
They’re not as slim-fitting as Stewart’s, but that’s just personal preference. The black is running low in stock, and I already have them, so I might get burgundy or gray.
Dream Pairs Ankle Booties
I like ankle boots because they work with, not against, the bulkier pant styles that start trending in the fall. Most importantly, my legs and feet don’t get as hot. These heels are about as tall as I’d go on a night out or when I need more height for a dress that’s slightly too long. Otherwise, I could go for something that has a shorter heel like this pair with over 4,100 perfect ratings.
