Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.
After interviewing Martha Stewart earlier this year, I’ve gained a greater appreciation for everything she does, says, and wears — and it’s almost like she heard I was doing a closet cleanout over the weekend.
Right as I was about to give away an old denim jacket, the 83-year-old stepped out in one on the very same day, September 1. The quintessential fall layer is one that I haven’t worn in years, hence why I almost donated mine. But with each new celebrity sighting — Mandy Moore, Julianne Moore, and Taylor Swift — I’m tempted to hold onto it for yet another season.
And while serious up top, Stewart had a party happening at the bottom of her ’fit. She styled her denim jacket with a pair of gold metallic bottoms, a style she’s worn before. She also left her Skechers sneakers in the car (wink, wink!), and instead wore suede-looking booties.

Okay, so I might donate my denim jacket after all. The truth is, I don’t love the way mine fits, and I love the way this one from Nordstrom Rack looks. It’s roomy in all the right places (aka the chest and arms), but it’s about the same length as Stewart’s. But for a darker wash, I’d choose this one from Wrangler that’s “comfy and soft for a jean jacket,” according to one shopper. And since leopard and cheetah print are neutrals in my house, I wouldn’t mind one with a patterned collar.
Vince Camuto Faux Leather Flare Leg Pants
A shimmer of gold or silver can make a demure outfit shine a little brighter, and it doesn’t have to incorporate anything flashy, like sequins or rhinestones that mirror a disco ball, to do so. This under-$100 pant comes in a muted metallic hue that’s not as obviously gold — some might even mistake them for khaki. Plus, the faux leather material looks nice and thick, while the flared legs parallel a pair that’s personally moved my style needle forward the past three falls.
Amazon Essentials Ankle Boot
Booties aren’t groundbreaking, but they are going to make ground in my closet: I need a block heel to keep me from toppling over, and one that’s not too tall, at that. Also, I’m thrilled about all the time I’ll save by not shoving my pant legs into a pair of knee-high boots. For this reason alone, I’ll be bopping around in booties this fall.
And suede jackets, shoes, and accessories are also already starting to sweep celebrities off their feet, so it only feels right to take part in the trend, too.
