Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton knows it might get terrifying to open for Slayer or GWAR.
The guitarist looked back on the time his band opened for Slayer. In his words, it wasn’t as intimidating as people thought it would be. The band’s fans, however, were where the problem started. Morton explained:
“We had always heard that this opening for Slayer is… You don’t want to do that. You don’t want to open for Slayer. You don’t open for GWAR. Their fans are going to crucify you.”
The rocker then shared his own experience with opening for both bands and how the fans reacted:
“Well, we’ve had good experiences with both. Slayer fans, over the years, have been very, very accepting, very hospitable. And, in time, Slayer fans have become Lamb of God fans, and that’s a cool thing.”
‘Kerry King Is A Real One’
Slayer guitarist Kerry King’s new band is supporting Lamb Of God and Mastodon in their joint tour.
In the same interview, the guitarist praised King and chatted about touring with him:
“It speaks to the character of Kerry King, a legend in this game. [I have the] utmost respect [for him]. [He was] part of some of the greatest metal songs in history. Slayer [was] absolutely formative in my understanding and my love for metal. And Slayer has taken Lamb Of God out on multiple occasions, Mastodon out on multiple occasions, at some point together. And so now Slayer is defunct or on hiatus, whatever it is that they’re doing, or not doing. I don’t know how to characterize that, but they’ve not been around, they’ve not been actively working.”
