NCIS has experienced several changes to its team over the years, and Season 22 will be no different. For starters, the show will undergo a significant time jump, moving the group six months into the future. Throughout most of the show’s storied history, the NCIS team operated as a tight-knit crew, but this season, the group’s focus will be scattered across several different areas.
According to Entertainment Weekly, not only will the series jump ahead six months, but Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and Parker (Gary Cole) are torn into three drastically different directions. While McGee eyes a deputy director promotion, Torres returns to his origins as an undercover agent. However, Parker’s focus will shift out west, placing him in the company of Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) for a pivotal case. Knight has a few life-changing decisions of her own, questioning the decision to leave her former beau, Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), behind. Showrunner Steve Binder spoke about the team shakeup, stating:
“Under the worst circumstances possible will these two have the talk. All in all, expect heavy hitting episodes filled with romance, “fun and unusual” pairings, and mystery. Like, who the hell is Lily (Sunnie Pelant)? “I wouldn’t be so sure that Parker knows who she is either. We don’t always remember the scars of our youth.”
More Changes Are Coming to the NCIS Universe
The core NCIS team (and series) faces major changes. This season isn’t the only new beginning in the NCIS Franchise. NCIS is set to go back in time several decades with the debut of NCIS: Origins, a highly anticipated prequel series following a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The younger Gibbs will be played by Austin Stowell, but fans of the original series can breathe easy as Mark Harmon will reprise his role of the older Gibbs in a narration format.
