Agatha All Along‘s fifth episode might have lent some credibility to a recent rumor about the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Episode 5 of Agatha All Along, titled “Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power,” revealed what many fans assumed from the start: Joe Locke’s Teen is Billy Kaplan, better known as Wiccan in Marvel Comics and the son of Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch. Much like Agnes being Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, this was a reveal fans saw coming years in advance, but it was exciting nonetheless.
Wiccan’s reveal lines up with rumors that have been circulating online that Agatha All Along would set up an adaptation of Children’s Crusade from the comics, and that the upcoming MCU Young Avengers project would pull heavily from that. Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus and other notable scoopers are backing up this claim (via Comic Book), but at the moment, any rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. With Wiccan confirmed, along with hints at a Scarlet Witch return, and Robert Downey Jr. set to play Doctor Doom in the MCU, plenty of pieces now point to The Children’s Crusade being adapted.
Published between 2010 and 2012, The Young Avengers: Children’s Crusade storyline was written by Allan Heinberg and illustrated by Jim Cheung. The series focuses on the Young Avengers attempting to find the missing Scarlet Witch and uncovering the secret of whether team members Wiccan and Speed are the reincarnated souls of Wanda Maximoff and Vision’s children. The comic put the Young Avengers at the center of the Marvel Universe as they crossed paths with the Avengers, X-Men, Magneto, and the next big bad MCU, Doctor Doom. In the book, Doom was taking care of the Scarlet Witch in Latveria as the two were set to be married, and it was up to the Young Avengers to foil his evil plan.
The Young Avengers Assemble to Find Scarlet Witch
Since Phase Four of the MCU began, Marvel Studios has seemingly been building up the roster for the Young Avengers, starting with Billy and Tommy Maximoff in WandaVision. Their introduction was then followed by Eli Bradley in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The first hint that the Young Avengers were assembling came at the end of The Marvels when Ms. Marvel recruited Kate Bishop.

Elements of The Children’s Crusade are already making their way into Agatha All Along, as Wiccan is on a quest to find his true mother, the Scarlet Witch. The Scarlet Witch’s survival was already teased in Deadpool & Wolverine when the cave carving of her from Mount Wundagore was shown in the Void heroes’ base. This could also be an early appearance of Doctor Doom before Avengers: Doomsday, as Marvel Studios likely wants to get the most out of the record-breaking payday they are giving Robert Downey Jr. With only four episodes of Agatha All Along left, the bigger plans for the MCU might finally come into focus.
