In the new episode of Bad Friends podcast, Machine Gun Kelly chatted about his career and more. The singer was asked if he had any mortal enemies. That’s when he claimed he had an ego death. When one of the hosts asked why, he explained:
“Realizing public perception will always change if you just continue running the marathon. Also realizing I have no control of outward opinions and that what is important is how I feel about myself and that’s what radiates.”
He also talked about his craft, saying it wasn’t his job to be liked by everyone and that he was just making art:
“It’s also not my job to be liked by everybody because art is what I do and art is always supposed to be conversational and if the conversation is just one way then it’s boring. So as long as do my job and create conversation, bad or good, I am an artist.”
‘True Art is Conversational’
The singer has talked about his art and what it meant many times, both in interviews and on social media.
A few months back, MGK got a great amount of hate comments and criticism for releasing a custom guitar in the shape of a razor blade.
The custom-made guitar is named ‘The Razor,’ and to some, it is not shaped appropriately for his minor fans. Some even said it glorified self-harm. MGK replied to the comments saying true art is ‘conversational’:
“I’ll never explain my art because true art is conversational and always up for interpretation, but I will say most of you constantly interpret it wrong. And then blame me for your version of what you think my art is. Ultimately I’m sad at how people perceive me in general. Peace.”
It even caused a heated argument between him and Olli Appleyard of Static Dress. When Appleyard said he didn’t like the guitar, MGK replied by saying he was a musician who never made it. In response, the singer claimed the guitar pushed horrific themes to his fanbase.
