In a new interview on Knotfest’s YouTube channel, Lzzy Hale recalled how once Sevendust supported Halestorm.
“We knock on the door of their bus and we’re nervous,” the singer said about meeting Sevendust for the first time. “Lajon opens up and I don’t know if you’ve ever met Lajon. Those boys are so sweet.”
Hale revealed their conversation, “He opens up and he’s like, ‘Hey.’ And I’m like, ‘Hi,’ and we immediately go into, ‘We’re in a band called Halestorm and we’re coming to see your show tonight and we just want to say you’re really great.’ It’s just like word vomit and they’re like, ‘Oh come on up to the bus.’”
“So they invited us up to their bus and we had our little demo with us,” Lzzy further remembered. “It was the first iteration of that and we gave him our little demo. We were so awkward. They’re like, ‘Do you want water?’ We’re like, ‘No it’s fine.’ Finally, it was like, ‘Well okay, let’s go in and we’ll see you on the show. we’ll be in the front row.’”
The rocker went on to reveal what happened next, “So we’re all at the front row waiting for the band to go on and we hear our song over the PA system. They had put in our demo. I’m hearing ‘It’s Not You’ for the first time before we were ever signed, before our first album and everything. I’m hearing ‘It’s Not You’ over the speakers.”
“I turned to Arejay. I’m like just squeezing his arm and I’m like I’m getting emotional thing about it because we turned and said, Well, if they think we’re cool enough to play our song at their concert before they go on, well maybe we got something,’” Hale lastly added.
Hale is a long-time fan of Sevendust. She even named the band’s 1999 album, ‘Home’ as one of the ten records that changed her life. The singer told Metal Hammer last year that she began getting into nu-metal at 17 or 18. She discovered Sevendust and their song ‘Licking Cream.’ This moment helped her see that she could have a place as a female rock singer.
