Metallica just dropped their own version of Elton John’s ‘Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding.’
Earlier, it was mentioned that Metallica paid homage to John and Bernie Taupin with this song during a ceremony in March. The event celebrated John and Taupin receiving the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress.
The ceremony was shown on PBS on Monday, April 8th, and also featured performances by Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox, and Brandi Carlile.
John And Metallica Has A Performance Together
It’s not just Metallica that showed love and tribute by covering an Elton John song.
A couple of years before the PBS gig, John showed love for Metallica by joining them for a version of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ on the Blacklist project in 2021. He even told Hetfield back then that it’s ‘one of the best songs ever written.’
