Academy Award nominee-turned-aged action superstar Liam Neeson once again demonstrates his particular set of skills as the Taken star fights to rectify the mistakes of his past in the new trailer for Absolution. Cue the violence. The movie finds Neeson on familiar ground (though this time sporting a mustache) as he dispatches villains left and right after the criminal underworld he used to be a part of comes back to haunt him.
Check out the first trailer for Absolution, formerly titled Thug, below.
This latest action outing sees Neeson reunite with Cold Pursuit director Hans Petter Moland, with the rest of the cast including Yolonda Ross, Frankie Shaw, Daniel Diemer, Javier Molina, Jimmy Gonzales, Josh Drennen, Deanna Nayr Tarraza, Terrence Pulliam, and Ron Perlman. Alongside the trailer, you can check out the official synopsis for Absolution below.
“In ABSOLUTION, an aging gangster (Neeson) attempts to reconnect with his children and rectify the mistakes in his past, but the criminal underworld won’t loosen their grip willingly.”
Neeson has become nothing less than an action movie icon since his first starring as ex-Green Beret and CIA officer Brian Mills in Taken back in 2008. Since that particular criminal gang made the moronic decision to kidnap his daughter, Neeson has led several action movie hits, including Taken 2, Taken 3, Non-Stop, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Run All Night, Unknown, and more. It looks like Absolution will contain everything that audiences have grown to love about Neeson’s aged action output, including icy stares, gruff monologues, and punches aplenty as the aging gangster fights his way to redemption.
Absolution
is due to hit theaters on November 1, 2024.
Liam Neeson Has Plenty of Action Movie Delights in the Pipeline
Despite saying he was considering retirement from action movies back in 2021, Liam Neeson is still going strong. The acclaimed actor last leaped headfirst into gunfire in the well-received In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Directed by Robert Lorenz, In the Land of Saints and Sinners finds Neeson living in a remote Irish village, where he is forced to fight for redemption after a lifetime of sins.
Alongside Absolution, Neeson has several more action movies in the pipeline, including Cold Storage, the upcoming sequel The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, and Mongoose, which will follow Neeson as a war hero who, after being accused of a crime he did not commit, leads police on a cross-country car chase.
Neeson is also due to combine his action muscles with his comedic ones. No stranger to the genre following roles in the likes of Ted 2 and A Million Ways to Die in the West, the action star is all set to lead the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun. Directed by Akiva Schaffer and based on an original story written by Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane, the reboot will see Neeson take over the franchise from the late, great Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin Jr. The rest of the cast includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, CCH Pounder, and Busta Rhymes. The Naked Gun reboot is scheduled to be released on July 18, 2025, by Paramount Pictures.
