Laurie Hernandez is heading back to the Olympics!
This year, however, she’ll be in Paris as an NBC Correspondent for women’s gymnastics. She’ll use her expertise on the sport to share with the viewers at home, and that means the medal winner will be on camera needing to look her best.
As she gears up for the Games, which kick off July 26, Hernandez, 23, chatted with PEOPLE about which beauty essentials she’s bringing with her to make sure her hair and skin (and overall wellbeing) are in tip-top shape while she’s abroad.

“[Skin care] wasn’t something that I could quite figure out while I was competing, because I would get super stressed out during meet season,” she tells PEOPLE. “All the sweat and chalk would just sit on my face, and I couldn’t quite figure out what my skin tone was like. Now, though, I use vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and a good cleanser. Those are all coming with me!”
Ahead, see what else the gymnast — who won a gold and silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2000 — is bringing to Paris.

Travel-Friendly Cleanser
“The new Olay Cleansing Melts weren’t designed solely for travel, but they really work for me because I travel so much. You put them under water and they turn into cleanser, and it’s so perfect because I always worry that something is going to leak in my bag or that I’m not going to have enough space when I’m traveling. My skin usually tends to go a little haywire when I’m traveling, too.”

Hair Mousse
“Traveling with this hair is a real pain in the butt, and it’s trying to figure out what products I can bring that I can travel with, because most of my products are really thick. But I love the OGX mousse.”
Buy It! OGX Locking + Coconut Curls Decadent Creamy Mousse, $11, ulta.com
Anti-Humidity Gel
“Ouidad has such great anti-humidity gel. That’s something that works really well with my hair. I’m always making sure that I’m taking enough with me because my head is a sponge.”

Diffuser
“I always have a diffuser, like this Dry Bar one. I think within the last six months or so I’ve gotten really comfortable with using a diffuser and just letting my hair be as big as it wants to be while also using a diffuser to define my curls. So that’s something that has to come with me. I cannot go on air without my diffuser.”

Liquid Eyeliner
“Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve needed a good eyeliner. Stila has a waterproof liquid black. It has a felt tip that’s super short and it makes it so I can define as sharp or as small as I want it to be. I’ve used that since I was competing in Rio and I still use it today.”

Tinted Lip Balm
“I always need a lip product that I can trust to put on without a mirror. So having a tinted lip balm like Burt’s Bees is something that I think my entire soul and wellbeing relies on, especially for commentary work, where there’ll be times when they’ll say, ‘Oh, we’re going on air in 30 seconds.” I don’t have time to take out lipstick or lip color, so I need to have a good tinted balm that has some color and hydration — especially when I’m talking for hours.”

Amber Fragrance
“My go-to fragrance right now is this Nemat oil. It almost smells like romanticized moss and leaves, but it’s something that smells really natural and has a little bit of a floral scent to it.”
