The first weekend of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris saw the best athletes in the world face off in dozens of sports competitions, from archery and gymnastics to swimming and cycling. But the exceptional level of athleticism and impressive gold-medal wins weren’t the only excitement that happened at this world-renowned event. At the Olympics, Lady Gaga revealed that she’s engaged to her longtime partner of four years, entrepreneur and tech investor Michael Polansky.
In a TikTok that French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal posted on July 28, 2024, to praise the Grammy Award-winning artist for her “breathtaking” performance of “Mon Truc en Plumes” during the opening ceremony, the singer is seen introducing Polansky as her “fiancé” to Attal. Although the video was intended to honor Gaga for her outstanding production, the reference to the couple’s engagement status didn’t go unnoticed. “GAGA IS ENGAGED,” one person exclaimed, while another gushed, “She was awesome and congratulations on your engagement.”
The “Bad Romance” singer first sparked engagement rumors in April 2024 when she flashed a diamond on her left ring finger while visiting a friend in West Hollywood. Diamond specialists at Steven Stone, a U.K.-based fine jewelry company, examined the sparkler that was exhibited in the photos, estimating that the bauble features an eight-carat oval-cut diamond with a solitaire setting that’s worth nearly $578,000.
Gaga was at the Olympics this weekend since she was asked to perform a cover of “Mon Truc en Plumes” to honor Zizi Jeanmaire, a French ballet dancer, actor, and singer who died in 2020 at age 96. Since Jeanmaire sang the ballad on a 1965 episode of The Ed Sullivan Show, Gaga paid homage to her appearance on the show through her costume and vocal intonation.
Gaga and Polansky were first rumored to be an item at the end of 2019 when the two were photographed kissing at a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas. A few weeks later, the musician confirmed the speculation by posting a photo of herself and Polansky embracing one another on a yacht in Miami. Before her relationship with Polansky, the “Poker Face” singer was engaged to actor Taylor Kinney in 2015 and talent agent Christian Carino in 2018. Both engagements were eventually called off.
