It’s normal for actors to be unable to watch their own movies and shows, but Game of Thrones star, Kit Harington, can’t even watch the spin-off series, House of the Dragon. Harrington played Jon Snow in HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s novels. As the illegitimate son of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), Snow was treated as the runt of the litter, before he joined the Night’s Watch. However, as the seasons progressed, Snow was revealed to be a pivotal character in the 8-season-long battle for the Iron Throne. Harrington looks back on his GOT tenure fondly, but says he won’t be watching any episodes of House of the Dragon.
Kit Harington spoke to Associated Press during the premiere of the upcoming third season of Industry. During the conversation, Harington was asked about his time on Game of Thrones and his opinion on the immensely popular prequel series, House of the Dragon.Surprisingly, Harington said he’s never seen the new show, and refuses to watch any episodes. The actor explained it felt strange to see another show set in the universe that he inhabited for 8 seasons. Harington said:
“I just can’t watch it. I think for me, it’s just I’ve spent too long there. And I wish them all the best. I hear it’s wonderful and going really well. But I don’t think I’ll ever watch that show, and I don’t think I’ll watch ‘Game of Thrones’ again for a few years.”
Kit Harington Isn’t Sure He’s Over Game of Thrones
Playing Jon Snow on Game of Thrones has made up a significant portion of Harington’s acting career. The actor appeared in every single episode of the long-running and immensely popular series. As a result, the actor says he’s developed a strong emotional attachment to the franchise. During the conversation, Harington was asked if he’d been able to move on from his time in Westeros. The actor admitted he’s not confident that he’ll ever be able to completely move on. Harington said:
“It’s taken a few years to put it in the rearview [mirror]- I’m still unsure whether it is fully in the rearview mirror. I think it takes a long time.”

Kit Harrington was initially supposed to make his Game of Thrones return in a new spin-off series. However, the actor confirmed earlier this year that the series has officially been canceled by HBO. The Jon Snow spin-off series was one of several new shows in the pipeline following the finale of Game of Thrones in 2019. The series would have taken place after the events of Game of Thrones. While his ‘brother’ Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) sits on the Iron Throne, Snow returns to the Night’s Watch after killing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The spin-off would likely have followed Jon Snow’s journey beyond The Wall as the Free Folk return to their homeland. Harington said the show was canceled because the creative team couldn’t settle on the right story to tell, explaining:
“We always have Game of Thrones scripts in development. We greenlit Dunk and Egg in the spring. I wouldn’t say there is anything else in that world that is close to a green light or anything, but we are always working on different scripts and ideas.”
