Kirk Hammett went viral with his dance on the song ‘La Chona’ by Los Tucanes de Tijuana.
The guitarist shared a video showing Rob Trujillo singing the song on Instagram from their Mexico concert and wrote in the caption of his post, “Viva Mexico.”
In the comment section, fans seemed to like Hammett’s dance moves. “Make viral the Kirk’s dance,” one person wrote with a black heart emoji.
“I LIKE THE DANCE KIRK…” another person wrote. “This is by far the coolest fkn thing I’ve ever seen in my life lmfao. This is why they will always be my fav band,” one other fan praised the band.
Metallica performed in Mexico City for the first time in seven years on September 20. Trujillo also paid tribute to his Mexican roots by playing ‘La Chona.’
“This is a great party,” the bassist spoke in Spanish to the 65,000 fans at GNP Seguros Stadium. “It is an honor to be here with all of you, with the spirit of ’72 Seasons.’ Kirk [Hammett] and I are going to play something for all of you. We are very nervous, so if you know this song, please help us by singing it.”
They quickly began playing the first chords of the classic song by Los Tucanes de Tijuana from their 1995 album, ‘Me Robaste El Corazón.’ It is popular in Mexico and the U.S. The bassist wore a mariachi hat and took the lead in singing.
Metallica is performing four concerts in Mexico City for their M72 World Tour to promote their 2023 album ’72 Seasons.’ The next shows at GNP Seguros Stadium are on September 27 and 29.
Metallica’s first performed in Mexico in 1993 during their ‘Black Album’ tour. They have stayed connected to Mexico, where they filmed their live DVD ‘Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria’ from three great nights at Foro Sol in June 2009.
