In a recent conversation with Riffx, Kerry King criticized Iron Maiden’s recent albums.
Slayer guitarist referred to Iron Maiden’s ‘The Book of Souls’ and ‘Senjutsu’ and also mentioned he hasn’t listened to Bruce Dickinson’s new solo album, ‘The Mandrake Project’:
“Haven’t heard Bruce’s new album, but I have a friend who told me it’s better than Iron Maiden.”
King described Iron Maiden songs as too long:
“Wouldn’t surprise me — nothing against Maiden, but their songs have gotten so long, man, I just can’t be bothered with it. And my attention span isn’t that much.”
King Likes AC/DC’s Music
The musician likes bands to keep their unique sound. In a new interview with Total Guitar, Kerry said it’s important for him to stick to his creative roots and mentioned AC/DC as an example:
“There are no shocks on this album. I like bands to stay true to the sound that works. I’m happy that AC/DC have been making the same record for 50 years. That’s why I like them!”
King’s new solo album, ‘From Hell I Rise,’ features vocals by Mark Osegueda from Death Angel, drums by Paul Bostaph from Slayer, bass by Kyle Sanders from Hellyeah, and guitar by former Machine Head member Phil Demmel. Although only two members are from Slayer, King said there won’t be any big changes to surprise Slayer fans.
The guitarist just released his first solo record, ‘From Hell I Rise,’ last week on May 17, and he’s currently touring to support it. He’ll also be back on stage with Slayer for the first time in five years this September. The band will be playing at a few US festivals.
