Obi Ndefo, who played Bodie on “Dawson’s Creek,” has died.
His sister, Nkem Ndefo, confirmed his death in an post on Aug. 31, sharing a photo of the two.
“Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother,” she wrote with a broken heart emoji. “and knowing he’s finally at peace.”
Obi Ndefo appeared on “Dawson’s Creek” from 1998 to 2002, portraying Bodie Wells, Katie Holmes’ character Joey Potter’s brother-in-law.
Upon hearing news of his death, Holmes paid tribute to her former co-star on Instagram story.
“He was wonderful to work with and such a kind man,” Holmes wrote. “I send prayers and grace to his family. Rest in peace.”
Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Gail Leery, mom to James Van Der Beek’s character, Dawson, posted a video collage Sept. 1, filled with videos and photos of their time on “Dawson’s Creek.”
“These words don’t come easy 💔It’s hard for me to conceive that you have left us, my dear friend,” she . “You always were and always will be a bright shining light. What an example of pure unfiltered love and tenacity you set as you faced life’s challenges of recent.”
She added, “I will cherish all of our messages of love and support to each other over the past few years. Rest in peace sweet warrior.”
In a , Obi Ndefo’s sister wrote that he died “early Wednesday morning” in Los Angeles.
While Obi Ndefo’s cause of death has not been confirmed, Nkem Ndefo wrote in her post: “Tragically, Obi’s heart gave out in his longstanding battle against the eating disorder .”
She shared that the family shared the news to “bring attention” to the disorder’s “severity and in the hopes that those suffering from this devastating disease receive the compassionate care they deserve.”

Obi Ndefo’s death comes five years after he was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of his legs. In 2019, Obi Ndefo was hit by a speeding SUV when he was putting his groceries in the trunk of his car, the reported. His legs had to be amputated, and his surgeon called his survival a “miracle.”
Obi Ndefo is also known for his roles as Drex in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” Kelemane in “Star Trek: Voyager,” as well as Rak’nor in “Stargate SG-1.”
He also appeared in “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “The West Wing,” “3rd Rock from the Sun” and “The Wayans Bros.,” among other TV shows.
