Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.
As a writer, originality is something I’ve always viewed as sacred. But as someone who loves fashion, I’m always borrowing pointers from other people’s impeccable outfits. And I kind of have a hunch that Katie Holmes does, too.
Last week, the Dawson’s Creek actress, 45, stepped out in an ensemble that was seriously similar to the one Meghan Markle wore just days prior. In fact, it was so identical, that I had to make sure I wasn’t just imagining it. Just like the Duchess of Sussex, Holmes sported a classic blue button-up shirt, some breezy beige bottoms, and a pair of open-toed sandals for spring. The only change? Holmes also accessorized with a tote bag — a celeb-popular trend this season.
It might just be a total coincidence, and if so, I’m even more confident in the blueprint that is button-ups, comfy pants, and spring accessories. That means it’s truly a powerhouse combination that looks so good you wouldn’t mind if you were to run into your boss on the street, and it seemingly works for the day-to-day tasks like a trip to the dentist or post office.
Katie Holmes’ Outfit Blueprint
Old Navy Oversized Button-Down Boyfriend Shirt
A button-up shirt is one of the main building blocks for a spring outfit — and this light blue one looks like it was plucked right from Holmes’ and Markle’s closets. It’s oversized, which I personally prefer in the spring and summer (I can’t stand peeling off sticky layers at the end of the day), and it’s got a curved hem in the back, which always helps me feel less exposed when wearing shorts.
Lillusory High-Waisted Wide-Leg Pants
Sometimes springy shorts make me feel a little naked. On those days, I like a swingy pant that’s not confining or tight like this best-selling pair from Amazon. One shopper said they’re like “wearing pajamas,” which is always my goal when it comes to finding bottoms — I need to be comfortable, and I know I could wear them with bodysuits, blouses, or sweaters in colder months.
Cushionaire Lane Cork Footbed Sandal
Holmes was wearing an old pair of Birkenstock sandals, which aren’t available anymore, per the brand, but thousands of shoppers compared this now-$30 Cushionaire pair to the pricier alternative. As for bags? Stars are going big this year, so I want to, too. This Montana West one from Amazon has a tall, vertical shape, whereas this Kate Spade tote looks more like a traditional option.
I know one thing: I’ll be recreating this easy outfit ASAP, and I think you should, too. Keep scrolling to shop more button-ups, pants, and accessories inspired by Katie Holmes now.
