As The Big Bang Theory universe continues its expansion, Kaley Cuoco says she is open to returning as Penny. Created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, The Big Bang Theory centered on a group of scientists and engineers and their friends and families. Cuoco starred in the hit CBS series during its entire 12-season run. During a recent conversation with PEOPLE, Cuoco reflected on her time playing Penny on the Emmy-winning series, which aired from 2007 to 2019.
“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre.
It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”
Cuoco said she would “100%” be open to reprising the role of Penny, adding:
I love that character, and I always will.
Cuoco’s comments come just days after Jim Parsons, who starred in the series as Sheldon Cooper, spoke about the possibility of appearing in a The Big Bang Theory reboot.
“As we sit here now, no, but I also I would I never say never to anything, because life just changes so much. You know, one of the things is that it was so special as what it was as what it is. And they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason, and you can be certain it wouldn’t be that. And so why would we be doing it? I don’t know that that’s how I feel on that right now. But like I say, God willing, life is very long,” Parson said.
What’s Next for The Big Bang Theory Universe?
Young Sheldon, a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, wrapped earlier this year, but it spawned the newly-released spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The series, which airs new episodes on Thursdays on CBS, stars Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, who continue their roles as Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister. Another The Big Bang Theory universe-based series is reportedly in the works, with Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus set to star. The trio will reprise their The Big Bang Theory roles and reports indicate that the series will revolve around Stuart’s (Sussman) comic book store.
