Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce caught attention at the US Open Tennis Championship women’s final in New York, while dancing and singing along to ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ by The Darkness. Justin Hawkins sent his thanks to the couple for the moment.
“I woke up this morning, and everyone’s forwarded me some footage of ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ being played at the U.S. Open and Taylor Swift and her partner Travis dancing along to it and really enjoying the music,” he said in a new TikTok video. “It was a really heartwarming moment for me, and my little girl can’t wait to tell her friends at school. So, thanks, Taylor. Thanks, Travis. Thanks, everybody who enjoys tennis. That’s a really lovely start to the day. Nice one, guys.”
Hawkins also recalled attending a Taylor Swift concert in Zurich, Switzerland with his daughter earlier this year. He praised the singer’s ‘hospitality’ by calling it ‘extraordinary’ and mentioned a hand-written letter he received from her while in the VIP section alongside Chris Rock and Roger Federer.
The singer shared, “To make matters even more spectacular, Taylor Swift actually sent me a lovely letter which was waiting for me in the VIP section talking about how much she loved the song ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love.’ I was just dad of the year, maybe dad of the century because all of that was a big surprise.”
Swift’s letter appeared in the TikTok video and read, “What a thrill to have you at the show! I’m a massive fan of yours and think ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ is one of the greatest songs of all time. I hope you and your family have fun at the show. Thanks so much for coming! Love, Taylor.”
‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ came out as the third single from The Darkness’ debut album, ‘Permission to Land,’ and reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. It also went platinum in the UK and the US.
Swift previously rocked out to the 2003 song in a 2016 ad for Apple that ended with the message, ‘Dance like no one’s watching.’
