Justin Hawkins didn’t like Extreme’s new song, ‘Beautiful Girls.’
In a recent episode of Justin Hawkins Rides Again, the Darkness vocalist praised the music video but also added:
“But it is sh*t at the same time. Yeah, it is sh*t. It’s really sh*t but I mean, one thing that I did wonder is like as it is the end of the ‘Six’ campaign. Doing something like this, that’s obviously a departure. Obviously a summer thing and if they declare it to be a summer anthem, it could be one of those situations where an A&R man has said, ‘You know what lads? You might have a summer hit on your hands if you do a video for this one.’”
Hawkins Knows Extreme Is A Fan Of Queen’s Music
Hawkins also shared what he thinks about Extreme’s Queen influence:
“I think if Extreme trusted their instincts, they’d be doing stuff that sounds like Extreme. Although having said that, there’s always a Queen influence in Extreme songs. I know that. They’re enormously enthusiastic about Queen and one of the things that I love about Queen and probably they do too is the eclectic nature of their early releases, especially the albums that came out in the ’70s.”
According to the singer, it was a wrong move for Extreme:
“They’re covering all sorts of musical ground. Yeah, and I think this is just them going, ‘Yeah, we want to do a reggae song. We’ll do a f*cking reggae song.’ And then, unfortunately, the record company’s gone, ‘You’re wrong lads. That’s not be so. That’s a single.’ And they’re wrong. This shouldn’t have happened.”
‘Beautiful Girls’ Is From Extreme’s Latest Album
Not long ago, Extreme put out the official music video for their song ‘Beautiful Girls’ from their album ‘Six,’ released in June 2023. The band commented on the video, directed by guitarist Nuno Bettencourt and Rene Rigal:
“Today we celebrate ALL the beautiful girls across the world with our new video. Beautiful girls come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds and this one is for YOU!”
‘Six’ debuted at Number 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, selling 12,500 copies in its first week. This album is Extreme’s first studio release since 2008 and their first Top 10 entry since ‘III Sides To Every Story’ in October 1992.
