There have been many great comedic double-acts in movie history, from Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello through Martin & Lewis and even the recent Coogan & Brydon, but nobody would’ve expected Brolin & Dinklage to be among them. However, after watching the new Prime Video movie Brothers, you’d be excused for wanting more comedy movies with Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage. They are collectively hilarious as bickering brothers in the star-studded new film, which also features comedic gold from Brendan Fraser, Marisa Tomei, Glenn Close, and the late, great M. Emmet Walsh. The two of them are so comfortable together in a double-act that it even comes across in an interview with them.
The two actors were very conversational in discussing their wild new comedy, which features some raunchy situations that might have been uncomfortable for some actors, from partial nudity to surprisingly intimate scenes with animals. We had to ask the stars if anything was particularly awkward when making their movie:
Peter Dinklage: Josh was in his underwear, in his tighty-whities, for about three days in the pouring rain.
Josh Brolin: Which was difficult for Peter. It wasn’t difficult for me.
Peter Dinklage: I wasn’t saying Josh. It was fine for Josh. Josh seemed fine… We got very close.

The stars have fun discussing their equally fun new film Brothers, coming to Prime Video, and Brolin shares sad news about The Goonies 2.
And speaking of getting “very close,” we were curious if an intimacy coordinator was ever needed on set for Brothers. The actors explained:
Peter Dinklage: Didn’t you need one for Samuel?
Josh Brolin: I think we did.
Peter Dinklage: Which is really funny. That’s the absurd part of making a movie. They did have one there for that scene between Josh and the ape.
Josh Brolin: In case something was uncomfortable for the monkey, not for me.
Peter Dinklage: No, nobody was looking out for you. We kid, but you know, this lovely actress named Devyn [Dalton], who does a lot of motion capture work, played Samuel. But it is really funny that you need an intimacy coordinator for that.
Josh Brolin: But the fact that it was her, which would make sense that you need an intimacy coordinator, but also strangely, how much fun she was having, and how uncomfortable it was for me.

No Studio Wanted to Make Brothers
Dinklage and Brolin were attached to Brothers from the very beginning, more than five years ago. While the nature of their relationship in the film oscillated over time, they were always committed to making this film, which in turn strengthened the bond between them that comes across so well in the film. “It’s a Hollywood story. A friendship grew through pitching,” smiled Dinklage. Brolin elaborated:
“I think that when we got together, we called each other, we had this idea, and then we started pitching it to different people. And I think within the pitch, during the pitch, I think we started to really see what that banter was, and it changed from pitch to pitch. And sometimes I was the alpha, sometimes he was the alpha. And then we kind of found our niche.”
“The good news is nobody wanted it,” added Dinklage. “So it took us a long time to get it, you know, we had a lot of time to get to know each other.” You can see the winning results of that in Brothers, streaming on Prime Video here.
