The docuseries, ‘Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,’ premiered on Disney+ on April 26. Jon Bon Jovi shared insights into the show during a recent interview with the Associated Press.
The frontman addressed concerns about the documentary’s objectivity as follows:
“I gave [director] Gotham Chopra editorial final say on everything because this was not gonna be a puff piece. That would be the worst thing to create some puff piece, and we wanted the truth to be out. Because we deserve to look back on forty years with an eye looking ahead. Regardless of what was to come with a new record or a tour, it’s still worth reflecting on 40 years and celebrating those moments. So, I gave him that opportunity and let it go.”
His words continued:
“If you’re not gonna be great, the guy that’s coming in tomorrow night is gonna be better. This isn’t a career that you should take lightly. There’s a million other young guys that are waiting to take your spot.”
Richie Sambora Hinted At Lies In The Docuseries
Previous comments about ‘Thank You, Goodnight’ implied that the docuseries didn’t reflect the whole truth. Richie Sambora himself told People that it focused on Jon’s story rather than the band’s:
“It’s his project and it’s his perspective. I have a different perspective on all of that.”
The guitarist referred to his point again in response to a tweet mentioning possible lies in the Disney+ show based on the vocalist’s interview where he said:
“That’s how it is in a band: One lies, and the rest swears.”
Sambora replied:
“That’s hilarious!”
