A creative fan-made two-minute LEGO video has given DC fans the chance to see a retelling of the entire plot of Joker: Folie a Deux without needing to sit through the heavily panned box office bomb. The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 hit Joker failed to capture the magic of the original film when it arrived in cinemas at the beginning of the month, but this humorously condensed short manages to do the impossible and turn the movie into something worth watching.
Summarizing key events, character arcs, and plotlines of the Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga-starring movie in a runtime that is only a fraction of the Todd Phillips film, the stop-motion video puts a lighthearted spin on the dark and dreary story of Arthur Fleck. While the film may have disappointed the vast majority of critics and audiences, this fan take on the story is still worth checking out, whether you have seen the movie or not.
The use of LEGO minifigures to portray Phoenix’s Joker and Gaga’s Harley Quinn is something that continues the trend of taking iconic moments from new movies and lovingly recreating them in LEGO fashion. Deadpool & Wolverine was given a similar treatment over the summer, with a video painstakingly recapturing one of the epic fights between the titular Marvel heroes. This time around, it is the grim story of the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn that has benefitted…perhaps Todd Phillips should have just made his movie out of LEGO, and it might have been a hit.
Joker: Folie a Deux Became One of 2024’s Biggest Box Office Disasters
Joker: Folie à Deux was expected to compete with movies such as Dune: Part Two, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Inside Out 2 as one of the highest grossing movies of the year. However, sometimes things don’t go according to plan, and for the only DC theatrical release of 2024, they could not have really gone worse.
The movie opened in theaters to a low $38 million domestic opening, and could not pass $60 million as it came to the end of its run. Globally, Joker: Folie a Deux has made just under $200 million, which was the film’s reported budget before its extensive marketing campaign. Having come through a dismal 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery must have been hoping that the Joker sequel could pave the way to a brighter future, but instead the film has proven more damaging and costly than previous box office bombs such as The Flash.

Take all things Gotham out of Joker and you still have a very captivating story about a troubled man and his road to revolution.
Now, the future of DC movies sits mostly in the hands of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU, with Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe also providing a very successful thread to more potentially strong results on both the big and small screens in the coming years. While Joker: Folie a Deux could still surprise everyone and take home a host of awards, beyond that, only its guaranteed chart-topping appearance on Max sometime in the next few months can give the film some kind of shot at redemption.
