John Feldmann of Goldfinger recently shared how they got kicked off of Sex Pistols’ 1996 tour and how Goldfinger got their revenge. During a chat with Allison Hagendorf, the frontman shared that the band was one of the victims of stuff getting thrown on stage. He recalled the one time he was thrown a whole pint of beer and a bottle filled with urine.
Feldmann recalled a day of the tour which he described as ‘awful’ and explained what happened that day:
“[The crowd] was brutal. Just chanting ‘f*ck you,’ booing, bottles throwing, it was awful. We opened for [Sex Pistols] up in Bumbershoot in Seattle, and it was, like, 60 thousand people. The guy, the radio DJ goes and says, [goes on] stage and says, ‘Please, don’t throw anything at this next band. They’re called Goldfinger.’”
The frontman shared the thing an audience member threw at him, causing his eye to tear, and what it caused:
“We get on stage, and there is this little CD case, you know, the plastic – if you don’t know what a CD is, you can f*ck off – and this guy threw a f*cking CD case at my eye, hits my eyeball, and [I have] tears my eyes on song one. I grabbed the DJ, I pulled him back on stage, and I said, ‘Throw everything you f*cking can at this motherf*cker.’ And then the whole stage was covered in trash.”
Feldmann then went on to explain what their drummer did that led to the Pistols taking Goldfinger back on tour:
“That day, we got kicked off the Sex Pistols tour because of that. They kicked us off. It’s saying a lot. But then our drummer goes in their dressing room and takes a sh*t on their catering, just sh*ts on their catering, literally. And then they let us back on the tour.”
The mentioned tour was the Sex Pistols reunion tour, ‘Filthy Lucre.’ The band reunited in 1996 for the tour after the band’s breakup in 1978 due to Sid Vicious’ worsening drug problem, delayed movie preparation, and government bans on their performances in the United Kingdom.
John Lydon made it clear that the Pistols reunited on ‘Filthy Lucre’ for money and still hated each other ‘with a vengeance.’
