Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 sat down with Jeremy White for a new interview and talked about his gear.
The guitarist discussed his live performances with the band and revealed why he replicates the former guitarist Mick Mars’ playing. He said:
“I just keep [my guitar tone] very simple. I have a couple of pedals, I don’t have any rack gear. Nothing, it’s all heads, cabinets, pedals; very simple. I have such a respect for these songs and such a respect for Mick, I’m playing them as they were recorded. So I am doing everything that was recorded live because those songs are so important to me.”
He continued:
“The mix parts are very important to me and important to everybody else out there that are such fans. I want to pay respect to that so I’m playing exactly how they were played on the record.”
John 5 Thinks Mars’ Parts Are Important
In an earlier interview, John 5 talked about playing Mars’ guitar solos in Mötley Crüe’s shows. The guitarist stressed how important Mars’ parts are and how he has adjusted his playing to match Mars’ style since joining the band in 2022. He said:
“Mick’s tone is incredible, and his playing is incredible. I had to change [guitar amp] heads; I adjusted my sound. I still use a Telecaster, but Mick also used Telecaster during ‘Girls, Girls, Girls.’ He used the Telecaster quite a bit. I have such a respect for and a love for Mars, and he knows that.”
