Joe Elliott sat down with Classic Rock to pick his ultimate AC/DC setlist.
The frontman named ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ as the track they stole from Led Zeppelin ‘without anybody noticing.’ He said:
“I love the way they managed to steal a Led Zeppelin song title and a Rainbow song title without anybody really noticing.”
However, he still acknowledged the song as one of his favorites:
“It’s just a great vocal from Jonna [Brian Johnson], and it’s got a fantastic chorus. And the video they made which came out a few years later, with Jonna in the flat cap and holding the bottle of beer – the grin on his face when he walks in and sees the girl on the mechanical horse just sums up the entire song. He just interpreted Bon’s sense of humour in his own Geordie way.”
Elliott’s Admiration For AC/DC
In the same interview, the rocker named many songs from the band’s fifth studio album ‘Powerage.’ And it appears that it might be his favorite album.
In another interview, the frontman called the record their best-sounding one and named his favorite tracks.
“It’s also the best-sounding record they made with Harry Vanda and George Young producing. It’s got that live-in-the-studio feel, but it’s also more powerful than ‘Let There Be Rock’ or ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.’ And unlike ‘Let There Be Rock,’ most of ‘Powerage’ is actually in tune!”
Elliott also admitted that he would love to do a similar record to ‘Powerage’:
“There are so many great songs on ‘Powerage.’ ‘Rock And Roll Damnation’ – or ‘Rock And Roll Dalmatian,’ as we used to call it – is a brilliant opener. And then you’ve got ‘Riff Raff,’ ‘Sin City,’ ‘Gimme A Bullet,’ ‘Down Payment Blues…’ I would shoot my own mother… well, no, I wouldn’t, but I would do something drastic to be able to write those kinds of songs. Stunning, absolutely stunning – the whole record.”
