The former ‘Tonight Show’ host was seen this week with a large bruise on his face and wearing an eye patch.
Jay Leno is recovering after falling down a large hill over the weekend, leaving him with an eye patch and a large bruise.
The former Tonight Show host was asked about the accident by TMZ on Monday, where he shared that he was staying at a hotel located at the top of a hill and fell while walking to a nearby restaurant towards the bottom of the hill.
“To get to it, I didn’t have a car, so you had to walk about a mile and a half around. I said, ‘Well, the hill doesn’t look that steep. It’s about 60–70 feet. Let me see if I can go down the hill,’” Leno explained, detailing the fall which left him with a bruise covering half his face. “I fell down. Boom, boom, boom. I rolled down the hill, hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye.”
The 74-year-old comedian added that he still went on to perform his show later that day at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California, and sought medical attention once he got back to Los Angeles.
“It’s not that big of a deal. It’s alright, it’s alright. … The great thing about this age [is] you don’t learn by your mistakes, you just keep doing the same stupid thing,” Leno quipped, referring to his 2022 burn accident.
In November 2022, the Jay Leno’s Garage star suffered third-degree burns in a garage fire. Following the incident, he said that his face caught on fire while he was working on one of his vintage cars and had to spend several days at the Grossman Burn Center.
The following year, he revealed to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was knocked off his motorcycle and suffered from varied injuries as a result. Leno said at the time when asked about how he was doing after the gas fire accident, “It’s so funny you should say that. That was the first accident. OK? Then just last week, I got knocked off my motorcycle. So I’ve got a broken collarbone. I’ve got two broken ribs. I’ve got two cracked kneecaps.”
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Leno’s rep for additional comment about his recent fall.
